Errict and Alex are two young boys who are both battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is the most common lethal genetic disease of children worldwide.

DMD is a progressive weakening defect of all the muscles in the body, including the heart, and primarily occurs in boys.

It is 100% fatal, with a maximum life of 20 years or less.

The two children, Errict, 13, and Alex, 9, were diagnosed with DMD about five years ago. Their family vehicle and home is not wheelchair accessible. The mission is to help the Lavery family with the tremendous expense of retrofitting their home to adapt to the mobility challenges that Errict and Alex are facing.

Kenaidan Contracting Ltd. became involved after learning about the brothers. Kenaidan has commited to managing the construction process for the family, including trying to get other companies to support this effort.

One part of Kenaidan's Core values is CETA, Care Enough To Act. It is defined simply by caring enough to act and reaching out to intervene with issues or potential problems; CETA is making the extra effort to help someone else.

The Lavery Family project is our first official corporate CETA project. Our goal is to organize and mobilize volunteers and corporate partners to make a difference. Our first step was to team up with Merit OpenShop Contractors Association of Ontario to ask for members' help to provide a safe and healthy environment for the Lavery Family for the next phase of their journey.

Next Steps

At present we have a Residential Designer, Darren Sanger-Smith of Structured Creations. He is in the process of preparing a set of drawings for a building permit submission. We are about a couple of weeks away from Building Permit application.

We have received many offers of donations from various subcontractors and suppliers. Such as: Bessling Mechanical, David Lopinski Electrical Ltd., Fairway Electrical, Harris Rebar, Liberty Group Inc., L.J. Barton Mechanical Ltd., Mattina Mechanical Limited, Murray Peters Electric Ltd., and Ontario Redi-Mix.

We have had several fundraising activities. Kenaidan held their Annual Partnering BBQ on June 17th and the other fundraiser was held on June 22 at Merit OpenShop Contractors Association of Ontario golf tournament.
